Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
Worse investment so far this year: IWM. It makes up 2% of my portfolio, and it's been awful.

It beat the SnP for the past one year, and is pretty much even for 2 years.
And at only 2% it probably won't change your life no matter what happens to it.

You must have an odd definition of "destroyed".
Form what I can see, it was down 0.75%.

Good thing I sold what I needed ten days ago when we were looking at the YTD highs.

Just opened spouse's TD Ameritrade HSA account last Thursday, money auto sweeped on Friday from HSA Bank and became avail at TD today. Fortunate timing I suppose.
Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
I don't market time, but I do have to wonder. The DJIA was at, what, 17,000 just 5 years ago, and many felt it was overvalued then. What happened in the last 5 years to cause it to double? Would a 40, 50, 60 percent retracement be unreasonable?

I just bought some, meaning market is bound to go down for the next few days.
Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
If -0.75% down is 'getting destroyed', what's -1.85%?

Yes, if today is the bottom of this market pullback.runninginvestor wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:32 amJust opened spouse's TD Ameritrade HSA account last Thursday, money auto sweeped on Friday from HSA Bank and became avail at TD today. Fortunate timing I suppose.

Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
I'm buying every week.
Today looked like a good day to put some money into the market.
If we actually do see any type of correction (-10%), I'll just rebalance accounts using our bond allocation.
Not retired yet.

Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
In my 401k I bought Friday. Oops. Could be worse, though.
Today in taxable I just sold a Walmart put instead. That's sort of like buying.
This time is the same
Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
Sorry, it was our small purchase in taxable last Thursday that started it.Boglebiker wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:38 amI just bought some, meaning market is bound to go down for the next few days.

You're right. Should cancel the order and wait until it bottoms just joking. Invest we must. Just nice to see her retirement contributions going in on a down day for once!Visitor76 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:40 amYes, if today is the bottom of this market pullback.runninginvestor wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:32 amJust opened spouse's TD Ameritrade HSA account last Thursday, money auto sweeped on Friday from HSA Bank and became avail at TD today. Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
Today I'm just happy that my latest (small) batch of RSU vested on Friday and I was lucky enough to sell them at the top for that day.

Not me, unfortunately. I only buy on the 9th (automated Roth IRA contribution), 12th (automated spousal Roth IRA contribution), 15th (automated 401k contribution), and 30th/31st (automated 401k contribution).
