Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
The markets went up because they probably thought that Powell will ease, now even with knowledge of the variant he wants to continue tapering as planned. I think Powell is getting spooked by inflation.

time to sell off everything?
Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
Not even an RBD yet, but there is still time.
And there we go: AVUV is in RBD territory and selling even below the Oct 27 RBD price.

At this rate, my 3-digit % gains on lots bought in March 2020 risk to turn into 2-digit gains.

I welcome the correction, for me a deep correction now is better than when I retire in a few years and experience sequence risk, I'd rather take my pain now when I am contributing...

Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
If the market is scared of high inflation, then why are long term treasuries up 1.5%?

My assumption is that it's about Omicron, not inflation.

I’m not doing anything different. I have a price target for when to buy more FSKAX (115-119) en route to my goal AA but am under no pressure and in no rush. Roth and taxable are teed up and funded, meantime DCA in my 401k. Will buy more I bonds in January and June, the latter to see if they bump the fixed rate.
Doing a lot of thinking about the medical and pharmaceutical fields. Getting a bird’s eye view the other day was really interesting. Overall I was very impressed. stay healthy everyone. Don’t let the markets get to you.

If Powell is worried about inflation and the markets are worried about omicron, this could get ugly pretty quick. Their might not be as much political capital left for the fiscal stimulus that saved us last time.

Well, that depends what you are looking at. Here are funds I own (% down from all-time high):SuperTrooper87 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 1:08 pm <5% off all time highs of just a few days ago right? Wake me up when we hit 20%.
TSM: VTI: -3.7%
Small value: AVUV: -9%, VBR -7.8%
Dev'p markets: VEA: -7.1%
Emerging mkt: VWO: -13.2%
Int'l small val: AVDV: -8.6%
Nothing 20% down, but most much more than TSM.

Quick TLH questions for a rookie who has never done it before (still contemplating, but may back up the truck).
My auto purchase for VTSAX happened on 11/11. Does that mean if I sell those shares today (exchange for a TLH partner), I won't be able to buy the same VTSAX fund again until 12/11?
I just don't want to trigger a wash sale, but this has always confused me. Thanks

Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
No, it's 30 days (before or) after the sale date. If you sell for a loss today, you would want to avoid buying VTSAX/VTI/etc. until December 31 to avoid a wash sale. (You would also want to avoid going back in time to buy shares after Halloween.)MortgageOnBlack wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 2:44 pm Quick TLH questions for a rookie who has never done it before (still contemplating, but may back up the truck).

Barometric pressure fell today on Wall Street. National Weather Service predicting high pressure to return by later in the week so today was likely a good day to buy.JoeRetire wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 3:00 pmIt's a big country. No, it means you will not be able to buy shares of VTSAX until the 31st day after you sell for a loss. That would be 12/31 I think or if you didn't sell today into January 2022.MortgageOnBlack wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 2:44 pm Quick TLH questions for a rookie who has never done it before (still contemplating, but may back up the truck).

You can easily turn off the upcoming auto-investment on 12/11. Also turn off any automatic reinvestment of the upcoming quarterly distribution.
OTOH, why not just create a wash sale and learn how to deal with it on your tax return? It's not hard.

Good time to dump TR income in taxable after seeing capital gain estimates come out. Switched to VTI/VXUS with the same % and will move the bond money into Jan 2022 I-bonds.
Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
Very proud of the fact that I was able to purchase 4 shares of VTI this morning. I don't make or earn much. I tend to only purchase 1 to two shares per bi-weekly or even month. I now have 30 shares. A minuscule amount to many, a major accomplishment for me in my journey so far.
Not upset at the price I bought it at, I wonder how the market will look tomorrow.
