Ah yes, well, they officially vested on Thursday, and were in my account on Friday. For some reason, the stock had a small peak on Friday morning and I caught it (by luck). Made about $160 more lol.

Can we get a shout out for our bonds/bond funds?
Mine are a really nice shade of green. Boatload of capital gains, though I'm not selling.
How are all those cash holdings working out? Any capital gains available?

I rebalanced (more like moved some things around, added some new money *and* rebalanced in the process) week before last. So, yeah. I'll just forget about that and bask in my amazing RSU timing skills for a while.

Fear and greed index showing extreme fear, down from 23 to 19 today. Whatever that indicates.

Incredible turn of events for bonds. With great trepidation I added significantly to my intermediate-term TIPS last month link; this was against a backdrop of lots of expectations for yields to go higher. I ignored the predictions and invested.Broken Man 1999 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 10:35 am Can we get a shout out for our bonds/bond funds?

Definitely. I just wait for her employer to deposit funds once a month (HSA funds and retirement funds witheld from two monthly paychecks), then HSA Bank auto sweeps that amount to TDA, and ad soon as those funds are available (usually next day) I buy Schwab's TSM (SWTSX) since it's NTF.Visitor76 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:59 amAgreed. The bond market is really acting up. We now see CPI +5.4% and everyone rushing to buy bonds w/ 10Y coupon rate only 1.2%

If payday were today, my spreadsheet is finally telling me that I would put some of my paycheck into stocks instead of the mortgage. It's been a long while now since that happened. We'll have to see if this can hold all the way until the end of the month.
Global Market Portfolio + modest tilt towards volatility (80/20->60/40 as approach FI) + modest tilt away from exchange rate risk (80% global+20% U.S. stocks; currency-hedge bonds) + tax optimization
Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
That just tells you that most people believe the 5.4% inflation is temporary. They could be wrong, or they could be right.Marseille07 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 11:43 am The bond market is really acting up. We now see CPI +5.4% and everyone rushing to buy bonds w/ 10Y coupon rate only 1.2%
I think they're right. I mean comparing things to a year ago near the height of a global pandemic and shutdown doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Average it out a bit.
$2,000 in June 2018 was worth $2156 June 2021 (just a bit over 2% inflation over the past 3 years INCLUDING this partial year so far of higher inflation).

Actually the bond market is doing just what I want it to do, it is zagging whilst my equities holdings are zigging.Marseille07 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 11:43 am The bond market is really acting up. We now see CPI +5.4% and everyone rushing to buy bonds w/ 10Y coupon rate only 1.2%
People are way way way too much concerned about yield, IMHO. Bonds are very useful for other things as well.
I doubt seriously people are rushing into bonds for the reason of their yield. It almost seems as if they don't care about yield at the moment. Wonder why?????
Yield is only one part of the valuation of bonds.
On June 28 I exchanged $200,000 from my Short-term Treasury Index to Long-term Treasury Index. The $200,000 is now a bit over $210,000. Now if I had been lucky enough to buy at the 52 week low on March 18, I would have had a whole lot more. I didn't have any long-term bonds, other than my I-bonds (only good for 10 more years) so I added some. I am doing some legacy investing, so I have no qualms moving out further on the duration, long-term is a better match for my legacy investments. DW and I still have short-term and intermediate term for our retirement, intermediate-term a better duration for us.
Now imagine if the market was down seriously, like 10%-15%. Those wimpy bonds yielding so little would be pretty nice.

All my excess cash is trapped in my checking account while I wait to close a refi (they warned not to transfer funds around). I have never TLH'd before so I looked at my lots of VTI - only the last one was in the red and only by a few bucks. As of writing, the market is down 1.7% for US and 2.11% international with bonds up 0.57%. For the average 60/40 retirement portfolio with 30% of equities being international and a 4% withdrawal rate, this retiree just lost 2.5 months worth of yearly spending in 1 day.

Probably a nervy day on the way to new highs between 4,500 & 5,000; "buy the dip" will be rewarded one last time but after summer is over there will be a Q4 2008 / Q1 2020 global liquidity crisis.

My time horizon on it is at least 20 years. So...as a long-term investor, gonna go ahead and ignore short-term volatility.
