Internet. Electricity.

Not energy dependent. Nope, not at all.

What the actual what.
You are right, the energy spent powering a vehicle with gasoline doesn’t hold a candle to the energy spent on electricity to power an internet router.

Come on…
Yeah moving 1s and 0s through a wire takes a lot less energy than pushing a 4000 lb car 40 miles each day.
But those data centers are very much an energy drain.

I noticed that too. NAZZ, S&P 500, and Dow 30 are all down. Market was slightly and mostly up earlier, not aware of any news.

Don't worry. You'll know soon enough. All of the financial news sites will have headlines in the format of "[index] is [up/down/neutral] because [x/y or z]". All day, every day, like clockwork.

Turned out Chair Powell was speaking this morning. The sharp drop was probably related to what he was saying.

I think there's lots of waiting for earning conf call to see how much of it is due to short term disruption of the supply chain issue. But tomorrow will likely be a red day.

What are you going to buy?

The supply chain issues we all knew about. Now, we're seeing it come through on earnings. This shouldn't be shocking. What we don't know is how long it will last.

That may definitely put a lid on the fun, but are supply chain issues enough to stop this bull? This bull market (talking the last 40 years here) was built on easy money and until that goes away or people stop believing in the currency I think the bull probably goes on.

I don't think the Volcker era was easy money, let alone the pre Nixon shock era.

Sorry, Ed, but it's possible for some of us to make decisions while considering multiple ideas.

Volker was Fed chairman until 1987, so I guess you meant the last 35 years, not the last 40 years?

Did Greenspan (chairman for the following 18 years) really open the free money spigot starting in 1987?

The spigots were opened in 2008-2009 by then Fed Chairman Obi-Wan Bernanke.

Interest rates have been decreasing (non-uniformly) since the early 1980s:

Formal QE has only been a little over a decade, but the long term secular bull market of "rates go down, stocks AND bonds go up" is about 40 years old.

My individual stocks have done some heavy lifting this week, mostly Microsoft.

I can't predict the end of the bull market. But it does make sense that vendors will sell less if they can buy less. And it makes sense that their margins will shrink if they can't pass on all of their labor costs to their customers. We should expect to see margins tighten if demand ever cools off. All that I can do is plan for lower returns in the future.

When the Shiller PE ratio hit 40 today, I felt OK moving from 76/24 to 75/25. I didn't sell VOO at the high of the day, but 432.50 is pretty close.

It's funny to see TSLA fall 10% based on Musk's tweet when his sale of stock is likely pre-determined and done so for tax purposes. It's such an emotional stock.

More sellers than buyers at the old higher price. Same number of sellers and buyers at the new lower price.

Occasionally there are more sellers than buyers and the stock value craters and gets delisted unless /wsb picks it up as a meme stock. Then it's 🚀
