Favorite investing/personal finance education YouTube channels?

Post by Missjosie444 »

Hi everyone,

I have been following this forum since July of 2021 and am very new to learning about investing, personal finance, and retirement planning. I am still trying to learn as much as I can by reading this forum and watching some of my favorite YouTube channels, such as Rob Berger and Safeguard Wealth Management. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend their favorite personal finance and investing YouTube channels?

Thanks so much! :D

EDIT: Since originally posting this, I have since become obsessed with White Coat Investor, especially his videos interviewing those in healthcare who have paid off hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, and then went on to become millionaires. I am now inspired to pay off my student debt, and my goals have sharply changed in the past week based on everything that I'm learning. Thanks so much to everyone posting their favorite podcasts and Youtube channels! I will happily have a lot to look up once I've gone through White Coat Investor's videos.

I’m of the opinion that YouTube is not a great place to learn about investing. The reason I think that is because a successful YouTube channel wants to constantly put out new content to draw subscribers and keep them. That constant need for churn ends up with the creators reaching for esoteric info that you just don’t need or runs contrary to keeping it simple and not reacting to market conditions.

If you already know to save as much as you can and invest it in very low cost stock and bond market index funds, you already know 99% of what you need to know to be a successful investor. Turn off the investment noise and spend your time watching kitten videos instead.

His YouTube videos are excellent, but there's a lot more on his podcast, the Rational Reminder.

Oak Harvest Financial (Troy Sharpe) and Sensible Money (Dana Anspach). Like Eric at Safeguard Wealth Management, they are CFPs/paid advisers and that is why they have the channel, but both have some good content. I especially enjoy the case studies Oak Harvest does.

I don't use Youtube for this purpose, but do occasionally watch videos from Chris Invests. My baby boy seems to like the drawings in those videos, and they seem to be from a more or less BH perspective.

Want to mention my favourite interview with Jack Bogle available on YouTube
https://www.youtube.com/user/witteecon/videos
It is the one I listen to most frequently.

The sound quality isn't perfect, but I never found a better copy of this specific interview.
Still worth a listen every now and again :happy

The Money Guy show avoids this pitfall by basically hitting the same key points over and over, finding ways to rephrase the same advice. Very little in the way of esoteric minutia, at worst there's some use of what's in the headlines to give some new context to their usual advice. Some may get bored by it, but I find it useful as a way to reinforce good habits. Just leave it on as background noise when I'm driving or working on light computer tasks.

The main one I watch on YouTube is Rob Berger. All others are just via Podcast, for the most part.

One outstanding, yet not mentioned previously, is: Ready for Retirement. Every episode is outstanding. This guy is young, but such a great teacher, and he also has a YouTube channel called Root Financial Partners.

Podcasts I listen to often (every episode unless it's just not applicable to my situation at all)
- The Long View
- Animal Spirits
- White Coat Investor
- Ready for Retirement
- The Money Guy Show (kind of annoying, but still occasionally worthwhile)
- Stay Wealthy
- Money for the Rest of Us
- Hack Your Wealth
- NewRetirement
- Bogleheads on Investing

Occasionally listen to if they seem interesting:
- Radical Personal Finance
- The Retirement Answer Man (can be quite annoying...)
- Retire Sooner
- Earn & Invest
- Rational Reminder
- Mad FIentist

Used to listen to, but for the most part they seem pretty worthless:
- Bigger Pockets
- Choose FI
