The article contains a roundup of 14 Wall Street strategists 2022 forecasts for the S&P 500 including highlights from the strategists’ commentary. The targets range from 4,400 to 5,300. The S&P closed on Friday at 4,538, which implies returns between -3% and +17%.

I'm glad I'm not paying for this kind of expertise.

I always appreciated Larry Swedroe's reviews each year of how these kinds of predictions actually turned out. Pretty dismal track record. And yet, the analysts are invited back every year for another round of predictions. Sort of confirms that it's all about creating content for media outlets and selling advertising, trackers, etc.

If you look at how these strategists did in 2021 you would see that almost all of them were dead wrong - so why would I believe their 2022 predictions

is that much different from the normal distribution of the stock market over any 1 year period, which by I believe Jack Bogle's slide shows from anywhere from -11% to +25%:

Do any of them ever predict that the market will go down for the year? Or is it always up, and it's just a question of how much? :greedy

a prediction of 4,400 to 5,300 (The S&P closed on Friday at 4,538, which implies returns between -3% and +17) means they are predicting a possiblity of a down year.
