Rest in peace Jack Bogle, and condolences to Jack's family. I had the pleasure of hearing Jack speak at a conference in 1996 and then witnessed his impact on the mutual fund business over the following decade.

The forum header is now dark gray. We are now in a state of mourning.

I'll update the home page shortly.

As much as I will appreciate what he did, I think I have even greater appreciation for what he came to represent, and what I fear is a dying breed in American business: the successful professional who puts others first, even at the expense of enriching himself. Who does the prudent thing rather than the expedient thing. Who uses the resources at his disposal to make other peoples' lives better.

What a thing he did.

Wow. At the most recent Bogleheads conference it seemed he would live forever.

Actually, he WILL live on forever. His vision and life's efforts have ensured that. I'm so honored to have had the good fortune to shake his hand and say "Thank You" in person.

By founding Vanguard and creating index funds, he made a big difference for small investors.

May he rest in peace.

Rest in Peace, Jack.

I never figured out why he didn't win the Nobel Prize. He certainly took a theoretical idea and showed how it could revolutionize the economic lives of millions around the world.

Truly sad day.

I will always appreciate him doing more for the retail investor then ANY person to this day. I can not even imagine a "Wonderful Life" scenario he didn't exist.

I am grateful as I am sure he was that his inspiration will live on through this forum being found. I don't know if it meant anything to him, but if I was him it would have given me much pride that my "fight" inspired so many to make a forum in honor of his philosophy.

The world lost a good man. RIP.

Good luck.

The passing of a giant of the investment industry is a sad day. He freely gave of himself his time, knowledge and wisdom. The welfare of the common investor was always his goal. We are sad today, but we are all richer for having read his books, read his papers, or listened to him. Rest in peace in Mr. Bogle, we thank you for your life of service.
