Twenty years of asset bubble will do that. Great to ride the waves, sucks if someone is sitting on the beach, watching pretty waves but never actually experience the new highs. :P

Of course, once the wave is gone, we'll all crash and wet and then realize who's not wearing pants.

From Bloomberg article "Fed’s Powell, Brainard Stress U.S. Inflation Battle Is Priority"
link
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell pledged to “use our tools” to aid jobs and battle fast-rising consumer prices as President Joe Biden chose him to lead the U.S. central bank for another four years and elevated Governor Lael Brainard to be vice chair.

“We know that high inflation takes a toll on families, especially those less able to meet the higher costs of essentials like food, housing, and transportation,” Powell said Monday in brief remarks at the White House after Biden announced his pick. “We will use our tools both to support the economy and a strong labor market, and to prevent higher inflation from becoming entrenched.”

The mods allow us three threads (this one, free fall, & ex-US) to kind of yuk it up about the direction of the market. Where would you suggest the taper talk go? I do agree that it tends to get overdone as well as the back up the truck mantra, but when they become too much for me, I visit these threads less frequently. It seems to help.

I suggest doom and gloom stay in the freefall thread that way I can avoid it. After all a taper is just a falling from the highs of the day.

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell ...

“We will use our tools both to support the economy and a strong labor market, and to prevent higher inflation from becoming entrenched.”
OK, so to translate Fed-speak into English...

"As for 'higher inflation', well, if that ever comes, we're OK with it... in fact, we like it, it can hang around for a while... just not so long that we think it's becoming entrenched. As for merely 'high inflation', like we have now, no prob... we're OK with that getting entrenched!"

Today Turkey's economic travails are on the front page of CNBC, months after I warned that such problems of the periphery (specifically referencing Turkey) will work their way through to the senior financial markets late in 2021.

That's really neat. Maybe you should perform a comprehensive review all of your warnings and signals over the last 12 months and report back on the results.

At this rate, I don't think we can hit my 5400 year end target. I thought it was possible till 2 weeks ago--1000 pts each week of the year. But I think I accept that it won't happen now.

The market not going anywhere for 17 years was the most remarkable part of that video. It looked like a small section of the overall chart but represents 17 years, which is a long long time. I imagine it would be tough to stay interested in such a market for very long.

Not a bad day, but still down $20,000 from ATH for portfolio.
