Re: U.S. stocks continue to soar!
I don't own any NFLX, but it looks like it has rebounded this morning. The growth of all of these tech companies will inevitably slow in 2021 after the banner year 2020 was for them. It's not realistic to think they could keep up that pace forever. But I know the game analysts play.Marseille07 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 9:38 amIt's an opportunity to buy if you are holding NFLX directly. Dow records intraday high. S&P .2% off ATH I believe.

IBM is down significantly AH due to miss on revenue.

Because all the Tesla investors were expecting even MORE profit and revenue, and had already priced those higher numbers in.

That's not going to happen any time soon. How else could the media headlines yell "The Dow Plummets over 1000 points!" on a RBD? Much better than a boring old 100+ points for the S&P.

I agree it’s so entrenched in the culture and besides that Dow Jones owns that index which itself and the WSJ is owned by Rupert Murdoch who most likely wouldn’t want it to go away.Candor wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 4:30 pmThat's not going to happen any time soon. Re: U.S. stocks continue to soar!
To which earnings season do you refer? Q3?
Overall, 8% of the companies in the S&P 500 have reported actual results for Q3 2021 to date. Of these companies, 80% have reported actual EPS above estimates, which is above the five-year average of 76%. In aggregate, companies are reporting earnings that are 14.7% above estimates, which is also above the five-year average of 8.4%.
https://insight.factset.com/sp-500-earn ... er-15-2021Analysts also expect earnings growth of more than 20% for the fourth quarter and earnings growth of more than 40% for the full year.

Not to me or anyone who is a regular investor. Insane returns aren't always the mantra of folks who invest in good companies that make a profit. I would take a 21% return from even the $700 level. I guess I'm not normal or maybe I'm too much of a conservative Boglehead who would be fine with 6% a year. I wouldn't know. I don't attempt to know the sentiment of all TSLA bulls or anyone in the market for that matter. All I know is that lostdog made a comment that TSLA was down after earnings by a smidgen. If the run up from May is any indication, I wouldn't be so concerned if I owned TSLA. Currently, I don't. It was only a comment that TSLA being down after earnings isn't an indication of whether the stock will move up or down, just that it has moved up recently.sailaway wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:35 pmAre they disappointed or cashing in?mikeyzito22 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:34 pmNot to me or anyone who is a regular investor. A little soaring for NASDAQ this morning, but S&P is being left in the dust.

It's very often down after earnings. Like, they beat "expectations" but not the expectations that they will beat the expectations as much as expected?mikeyzito22 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:47 pmI wouldn't know. It was down 1% AH. Up 2% a few minutes after open, now up 3.6%, one hour after open. But the day is still very young and it has hours to fall back down. That's TSLA for you. Huge swings, it's an emotional stock.

S&P is approaching positive territory for the day.
But, as has been typical for several years now, VXUS lags behind and is in the red.

It was just a crapshoot. Look at today, +2.8%. If they were disappointed by the ER, you can't explain today's action.

By the way, we should've all bought DWAC with every penny last night and sell at end of the session, 357% so far

Nice that it only took 21 days to make back all the losses in September and then some

Bad earning from INTC, SNAP. FB is dropping because SNAP said the ad revenue stream is constrained by economy and AAPL. Looks like a red day for QQQ tomorrow.

If your account is more Value oriented, your account was probably down just a tad. If your account is tilted towards Growth, your account was probably up a little. Not sure that is soaring but I guess I will take it. Too bad we don't have a "U.S. Stocks Didn't Do Much Today" thread.
