About 8.5-9%, but this thread is doing it's job. I care less and less about the percentage gains.

Re: What are you up YTD? [Year To Date]
I generally don't look at YTD. When I look at my IRA I see that it's up 26% overall (3 years or so), and my brokerage account is up 56% from original value. I like the current momentum. I'm sitting on what I have.

My 60/40 is up roughly 6.3% YTD based on the "personal returns" spreadsheet in the wiki.

It's just a simple play on over-consumerism. Some might believe that one eats ramen noodles because they're poor, or can't afford a proper meal, you know, like eating cat food in old age. It can also be seen a a method of living extremely below ones means so that a person can save a massive nest egg for future financial security.
Not sure about the typo.
I'm not really rich, by the way.

At this point up 50% or down 50% would make no difference 20 yrs. later. Being excited about yearly returns in up markets are for those who need confirmation bias to strengthen their resolve.
Watching the portfolio grow keeps me motivated. When it's up I get a bit of a lift (a little or a lot, depending on how much it's up). When it's down I take a "who cares" attitude and brush it off.
Being on margin I have to keep an eye on it, even though it's only 1.1x

I use the VG app, and for 1, 5, 10 year periods it shows an annual *rate* of return. I’m not sure what they would show for YTD, but it would probably confuse or anger half of the customers.lostdog wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 8:32 pmWhy doesn't Vanguard show YTD percentage?mikejuss wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 8:28 pmI can get 1-year but not YTD. I.e. should the show “the % you’re up so far this year”, or for consistency should they convert that to an annual rate? You might see some really bonkers numbers early in January.
But heck, as bogkeheads, we don’t care about that short term stuff. Right?

At Schwab, the opening page shows YTD change (Beardstown) and with a few mouse clicks I can get YTD total return along with 1 year, 3 years, custom timeframe, etc.
Plus I can call them 24/7 and get the most polite humans you will ever talk to -- for whom English is their first language -- on the line in less than a minute.
