Rates are falling back too. Perhaps it is due to the higher than expected jobless claims?

Somehow I am old enough to remember when "mooning" meant exposing one's bare bottom.

It's one thing to believe rate will go up, another to put $$$ on a leveraged LTT bear ETF. Of course, this is just one day.

My portfolio ended up 96bps. My top three holdings are: QQQ, VOO, and AMZN in that order. That's over 90% of my holdings. My holding of TTT is now a little less than 1%. It's such a small holding that its drop of just shy of 5% didn't have a meaningful impact. And I'm not selling. The 30 year treasury bond at barely above 2% makes no sense.

This is why we tell folks here to limit their "play" money to a small percentage of their portfolio.

What I'm trying to wrap my head around is that growth and bonds rallied. The S&P 500 didn't do much of anything. And value got hit. Mr. Market is losing his mind. Maybe he should let Ms. Market take over for a bit.

I wouldn't read too much into today's action. The markets don't always make sense. We should stay the course. Time in the market is more important than timing the market.

I'm surprised you list Amazon as one of your top holdings. I own it too, but Bogleheads have made me leery about taking on top much single stock risk.

It's nearly doubled since I bought it last March 2020. That's why it's in my top three. I usually hold investments for at least two years before selling them. This is the usual run up to Prime Day. I have no idea if I'll sell next March, but that would be when I hit the two year point.

Heck, the entire market has nearly doubled since March 2020... and plenty of individual stocks have done a lot better.

Don't act like you're so smart with your "pick" of Amazon in March 2020. :)

Although I do not disagree that leveraged etf and etns are not inherently risky, but if you just got Amazon cuz it has doubled let me tell you

- tqqq the triple leveraged etf of QQQ 6x your money from the bottom of March 2020 yes they work best from the lowest of the crash to the run up

- fngu a very very risky ETN would have more than 8x your money ..

Now ofcourse hindsight is always 20/20

;but both are FANG and nasdaq heavy so might as well get them vs getting individual tech stocks..ymmv..

Full disclosure I have previously been doing the HFEA then moved to 100% tqqq then moved over to 100% fngu.

Buddy, the market is only -2.08% from ATH. If this is impacting you this much then I suspect your allocation is too aggressive.

Well given the timing of it, it appears stocks-related to me.

If it were cash, you've lost energy when CPI printed 5%, not yesterday.

Your portfolio is extremely safe. The markets lost 2% this week. If this were 10% of your portfolio, that's -0.2%; you still have 99.8% remaining.

You're waiting to do something, and you thought you'd be doing it by now, and it's got you on edge that you haven't been able to yet, and you just can't even right now?

I think that portfolio isn't diversified well, and that level of cash is a very large bet about the Fed's willingness or ability to control inflation. I don't want to derail this thread, but if you need help making adjustments to your portfolio, you should start a thread. People here are happy to help. I know this because I was in your exact same position, and the good people here helped me dearly.

LOL... when did that happen?

Jeeze Louise anoop, you bounce all over the place. I thought you were 100% sure the Fed would never let the stock market crash again?

When did what happen? I was going to put 100% of my 401k in, you convinced me not to, so I put 25% in, and I've stayed that way. It equates 10% of my portfolio. If I had put 100% in, I'd be up some serious money now!

I always thought you had put 25% of your portfolio in stocks... but it was only 10%? And you've been gnashing your teeth all this time?

You've been mostly in cash for the past 10 years, right?

I hope you save a prodigious amount each year...

Maybe you should read the wiki and some of the recommended books.

Mostly in cash since early 2008, so a little over 13 years. I don’t have a budget, but I do save a lot.

The 25% was referring to the 401k. Someone else clarified that when we were discussing last time. My outside 401k grew a bit because of bonus/RSU earlier in the year.

Wiki would be all good if I could get the central bank manipulation out of my head.

Certainly love for VUG here as I like the lower expense ratio. In fact, I have one of my accounts heavily weighted (~90%) in VUG (my "risky" account as I call it).

The whole notion of Bogleheads is to ignore the news and stay invested. The central bank may be manipulating, maybe not. It doesn't matter.

My take is a little different in that Bogleheads assume an efficient market and Central Bank manipulation works against that. But if the Central Bank is manipulating it is doing so to keep the market functioning for your protection, so it should be considered an advantage. Some of their actions will make you money and some will lose you money. We saw that from 2008-2015.

So...what would you advise the poster above who is running a 10/90(cash) portfolio and said they can't get the central bank manipulation out of their head? Not saying 10/90 is wrong but it's quite diverged from a recommend set of AA selections.
