Gifting shares into IBKR account?

Post by kxl19 »

I have shares at Etrade that I’m trying to gift to a relative who has a IBKR account.

According to the interactive brokers website, it seems that I need to inform them of the incoming push.

I confirmed with Etrade that they are able to push the shares over. Question is whether IB will accept the shares since the acct registrations are different.

Does anybody have experience gifting shares into IBKR?

I don't have practical experience with this but according to IBKR, the account registrations need to match
Your Account Name, Tax Identification Number and Customer Type (i.e. individual, joint, Roth IRA), must exactly match the third-party broker account in order for the transfer to take place.

I would ask IBKR support as I imagine there must be a process to transfer gifted shares as it is a relatively common transaction.
