VIPSX (TIPS) Unrealized Appreciation/Depreciation

Post by hayesfj »

VIPSX - Vanguard Inflation-Protected Securities Fund Investor Shares, is currently showing (as of 03/31/2021) a Realized capital gain/loss of -$0.01 and an Unrealized appreciation/depreciation of $1.26 vs a NAV of $14.53 on 5/7/2021. Is this amount of unrealized appreciation (8.87% of NAV) a consideration when looking to establish a new position? Why or why not?

Thank you!

I am helping a friend manage a inheritance. She only has a small amount of interest income, a non-taxable Social Security payment, and is sitting on a large Tax Loss Carry forward. So while this would be in a taxable account, the rate is effectively zero.

got it. i wouldn't be concerned then about the potential for capital gains distributions that this might imply.
