Re: My Tbill Matured & Vanguard Paid Me Twice

Just checked this morning and all is as it should be. I was really hoping that they were going to pay my Tbill interest twice but I guess it just wasn't going to be. An extra $1,500 would have been a nice surprise though. :sharebeer

My Tbill Matured & Vanguard Paid Me Twice

I had a Tbill mature today and I discovered that Vanguard has paid the interest twice. Vanguard shows the pending deposit for the same Tbill two times in my account. The deposit shows the same CUSIP etc. I'm sure they will discover their error but if not I'll drop them a note.
Just never had this happen before.

You are not the only person experiencing this. Another forum member had a similar post yesterday saying they expected a 2023 Vanguard 1099-DIV/B/INT and the online account message suddenly changed from displaying an expected available date to no tax forms.

Have you called Vanguard?
I've emailed them about this "problem". If I don't hear back from them in a day or two I'll give them a call.

I wish that were true, but I've got a bunch of taxable stuff. I'm sure it is just some weird message they decided to put up until the tax forms are available. At least that is what I'm going with at the moment.

No Tax Forms from Vanguard?

[Merged here by Moderator Misenplace]

Just for fun I logged into our Vanguard account and clicked on the tax forms link at the top of the page. For some time now the message would be that the tax forms will be available after February 16th or thereabouts. This time the estimated dates are gone and there is now a note that just says that we will not be receiving any tax forms from Vanguard for 2023. Say what? :confused

Pending Distributions No Longer Showing

I always enjoy it when I receive a distribution from either a stock or mutual fund. I track when a distribution will be paid and log into Vanguard to double-check the amount I'm receiving. For years such dividends would appear on the Distribution Page as a "pending distribution" on that day. The next day the same distribution would appear on the "Activity" section, which would be expected. It appears that Vanguard has updated the Distributions page into another format whereas pending distributions no longer show up. This morning there is a dollar amount being deposited into my settlement fund but Vanguard doesn't show where the funds are coming from. I believe I know where the money is coming from and normally I could ju...

Re: Confused About Vanguard's Treasury Money Market Fund

This is great! Thank you so much for the information. This is the kind of information I was looking for but didn't know where to find it. When the report becomes available for 2023, where will I find it? I find it interesting that the taxable/nontaxable information is not knowable during the year for California. I've got a slug in Tbills already but thought I would look at VUSXX as a possible compliment. Now I use the Federal Money Market settlement fund for excess cash but thought I could make a couple extra bucks by putting "excess" into VUSXX. I guess it is just a shame that I will have to wait to see if the interest earned will actually end up being state tax free.
Thanks again

Confused About Vanguard's Treasury Money Market Fund

[dbc47's topic has been merged into the ongoing discussion - moderator Kendall] I live in California so my question is about the state tax.  My confusion is about how much of the fund's distributions are state tax exempt.  I can't seem to find a definitive answer.  I see past discussions about VUSXX distributions being state tax-exempt.  Then I read an article from The Finance Buff that a fund must meet the requirements in order to qualify for state tax exemption (California).  Then if the fund didn't qualify then all the interest would be taxable?  In other words, I should have just left the money the the Federal Money Market settlement fund if I was going to get taxed anyway.  I've read the literature that Vanguard provides (Fact Sheet a...

OK, I did the restart and I think I'm back to good. As far as I can tell just a couple of settings changed, nothing big. One thing that did happen was that as soon as the reboot finished the Windows 11 update started downloading again. I was able to pause it and got it to stop which is just a temporary fix. I'm in the process of downloading the ISO from Microsoft and when I regain my courage I'll try it again. Thanks for the help everyone. :happy

My Dell XPS desktop finally decided I needed to upgrade to Windows 11 and the process started at about 9pm last evening. I let it do its' thing overnight and some 12 hours later the installation process is at 87%. It has been at 87% for the past 3 hours. The hard drive seems to be doing something, but there is no progress. Not sure how to handle this. I've done some reading but I don't know if I should just let it keep going or try to do a restart and hope for the best? :confused

I saw a discussion somewhere, maybe not here, that someone wanted to put part of their IRA into a CD to take advantage of the current rates. I'm not debating if that is a good idea or not, but how would that work if one had to take a required RMD? You can't just sell part of a CD?

I wanted to try it again to make sure that all was well and I attempted to log in again. All worked fine until the password space appeared where I could enter the password. I use Bitwarden which filled in my password for me. I hit submit and TD returned to the same screen showing that I hadn't logged in. I tried it again and Bitwarden filled in the password as before but TD still wouldn't accept it for some reason. I then bypassed Bitwarden and hand typed the password into the space provided and TD like it and allowed me to log into the site. Not a big deal, but...

My T-Bill Ladder May Be Ending

This morning I was ready to roll over another chunk of money into another T-Bill but looking at the rates currently showing on Vanguard I believe I have to at least pause my purchasing plans. It appears the rates, at least for the moment, are in the 4.69% range and lower vs 5% + for brokered CDs. I like T-Bills better for various reasons but I guess if I have to go with a CD to get a better rate I will. I know that Ally Bank is offering the 4.75% no-penalty CD which is another option as I already have an account there. The Vanguard settlement fund is approaching that rate fairly quickly it seems. I don't want to open up another account somewhere just to perhaps get a slightly better rate. Decisions, decisions. :?

Re: $1 Million Cash - Buying Treasuries vs. 4.55% Online Savings Account

If you have $1 million cash, obviously it is easier and more liquid to just put everything into a 4.55% online savings account. That is simple, quick, and liquid. But I heard short-term treasuries are paying over 5.00% right now. How much more work is it to ladder treasuries? Questions: 1. On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being the most), how much work and time does it take? 2. Also, which website is the best for laddering treasuries? 3. Any other tips or advice? Just trying to see if it is worth the extra trouble just to make an extra $300 per month. Lots of bogleheads like using Fidelity to ladder Treasuries, but Treasury Direct is pretty seamless once you’re familiar with navigating their antiquated website and process. I’ve used TD for o...

Does It Make Sense to Sell This CD?

In mid July of last year, my wife and I purchased a two year brokered CD from Vanguard which came with a 3.15% interest rate.  We invested $170,000 and chose to receive the interest monthly ($455 + or -).  I knew there would be an interest rate risk, but I'm somewhat shocked as to how fast interest rates climbed.  Now I'm looking at interest rates in the 5% range being offered and it got my poor old brain wondering if I should sell the CD and reinvest in either a Tbill or perhaps just a one year CD.  My problem is trying to figure out if it is a "wise" thing to do.I went through the motions of selling the CD at Vanguard just to see what we'd receive if we did in fact sell it.  Vanguard shows we would get $165,626 if we sold.  Sinc...

Re: May Have to Sell My Wellesley Fund

I can't tell if you want a capital gains distribution or not. But I assure you that you don't. It's a potentially taxable event that has no impact on how much money your investment is worth. If you sell before the ex-dividend date, you will avoid the distribution. Let's say I have a cap gain of $10,000 coming on December 20th (the pay day). I have it set up to receive dividends and cap gains in cash so the $10,000 will go into my settlement fund and the value of the fund will decrease by $10,000? Is that correct? Even if I had the cap gains reinvested wouldn't that also be a taxable event? What's the difference? I may not have to sell the fund but I'm trying to prepare and get ducks in a row. I just find it odd that if I sold the fund now ...

I may have to sell our Wellesley fund prior to the year end cap gain distributions. If I sell before then will I receive a portion of the cap gains or none at all? I would assume it would be prorated out perhaps? I'm pretty sure I'd get a portion of the normal quarterly distribution.

Perhaps since I'm doing this on a non-business day may be the reason the wire money option is not appearing? Just a guess. I'm not worried about it as I know I can call Vanguard, but was hoping to avoid that.

I Can't Find How To Wire Money Anymore

My wife and I are buying a new house (or hope to) and will need to wire the money to the title company. I did this three years ago when we bought our current house and for the life of me, I can't see on the Vanguard site where to do it. I found the Vanguard phone number to call if I'm transferring the money to a bank that is not already linked to our account which is perhaps what I'll have to do, but I thought there was an "easier" way. I don't remember it being so hard to figure out a few years ago. I also found instructions on how to wire money TO Vanguard, but not the other way around. It is probably right in front of my face but other than calling I don't see another option at the moment. Sorry, but I'm getting old!

Re: Brokerage CD Early Withdrawal Penalty

I purchased a brokered CD ($170,000) from Vanguard a few months back at 3.15% for two years. Perhaps not my smartest move but that is neither here nor there. Anyway, I was going to have no need to do an early withdrawal so wasn't worried about the value going down like it has. But as luck would have it, a house came up for sale near us that we've been eying for a long time and now I may indeed have to sell the CD in order to have enough cash to buy it. If we go through with the purchase I will end up taking a $5,000 to $6,000 hit based on what Vanguard says the current value is at the moment. If this particular house hadn't become available I doubt I would sell the CD.

Re: Where are the End of Month Distributions?

My distributions arrived this morning in our transaction history as they should and always have in the past. For some reason they didn't show in the daily pending transaction on the payable date as before. No big deal. I'm just greedy and want my money!

Re: Where are the End of Month Distributions?

Yes, it is our brokerage account. I'm spoiled I guess. Ever since I can remember the fund distributions paid on the first of the month always showed up in our daily pending activity as deposits. This time only VWEAX is visible but the other two are not. In looking up the distribution history for each of the other two funds they each show the dividend being paid today (3rd), but not showing being deposited into our account. Not really worried about it, just seems odd to me that this time is different.

Where are the End of Month Distributions?

I have 3 Vanguard funds that pay a distribution at the end of every month. They are VWEAX, VWALX and VWIUX (High Yield and Muni funds). The high yield is showing up in today's distributions but the other two are nowhere to be found. The distributions were apparently paid, but not deposited into my account as they always have. It has always worked like clockwork so maybe it is just a new website glitch? :confused Maybe they will show up tomorrow?

We will still get paid the monthly distributions which is a good thing.
You are reinvesting at a lower price if you are reinvesting those dividends.
We're taking the monthly dividends in cash to help with our living expenses.

Re: Vanguard's bond trading page not working

Same here. Wanting to do some research and page won't load. It just says an error has occurred. :?
