I used IKEA cabinets when I redid the kitchen in my first home. Had no problem selling the house and many people complimented the kitchen.

I once again used IKEA cabinets when I redid the kitchen in my current house.

I doubt the vast majority of buyers would consider this when buying a house. Some on this board, sure, but not enough people for an IKEA kitchen to be a deal breaker.

Re: Thoughts on buying cheap, used, "intermediate" range EV?

I replaced an 05 CRV with a 2021 Bolt Premier with 6,500 miles in November, $16,500 after the rebate. We also own a 22 Sienna.

I’ve been very pleased with the purchase as we’ve put over 6,000 miles on it already. Not having to freeze while pumping gas in the winter has been a nice unexpected perk. I recommend checking out the bolt ev subreddit (just Google “bolt ev reddit”) to learn all you would need to know about the Chevy bolt if you decide to go that route.

Re: Struggling to find a dealer that participates in the new POS EV tax credit.

Google a specific vehicle in the 2021 or 2022 model year you are looking for with your zip code at the end of the search. The niche dealers who are selling the EVs will show up on the third party results in Google.

Look for a specific location that has multiple vehicles you are looking for.

Click into one of the cars and find the dealer.

Google the dealers name to find their contact information and call the dealer directly to get the information you are looking for.

Re: When to sell old/purchase new vehicle

I also just sold my 2005 CRV. Bought it 7 years ago with 135,000 miles and it had over 228,000 when it sold a few weeks ago. I had been yearning for something newer for a year or so, but wanted to avoid an additional car payment as long as possible. About two weeks after replacing both rear wheel bearings, a blinking check engine light appeared driving to school. That was the last straw. Given the used car market and my use case, I decided on a 2021 Chevy Bolt Premier. The car payment stings, but I don’t regret it at all. I do think spending the extra 3k for the more comfortable Bolt was a wise choice given the amount of miles we will put on the car.

Used EV Tax Credit Options

Currently driving a ‘22 Sienna and an ‘05 CRV. The CRV is on its last legs with 228k miles. I am looking to replace this car within the next few months. Sparing all the financial details, I’ve decided to take advantage of the $4,000 used clean vehicle credit and would like some input on those who have more knowledge on the EV scene.

The EV will be a 2020 or 2021 sold at a dealer for under $25,000. I plan to charge at home, so I will need to install charger. I’ll likely drive this car 30k miles each year with most trips being around 100 miles round trip. I’ll likely wait until early 2024 when dealers are able to redeem the credit at the point of sale.

What should I be on the lookout for?

2002 Chevy Prizm. Bought it new for $12,120. Just waxed it last weekend. I joke that to me, a car is an appliance. When it wears out, I toss it and buy a new one. I'm 69, so if I do buy another car, it will probably be my final car purchase. Got my eye on the Prius Prime....the plug-in Prius that will go on sale sometime in 2023. I bought my wife her first car back in 2007, a 99 Prizm for $1500. We called her White Lightning. We still occasionally talk about that car, which was basically a Toyota Corolla. We donated the car to her sister about a decade ago and she wrecked it the first week she had it. White Lightning is long gone now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she is on the road somewhere. As for me now, I flaunt a 2005 Honda CRV with...

The title of a recent, very good book, says it all: The Revolution That Wasn't: GameStop, Reddit, and the Fleecing of Small Investors , by Spencer Jakob. And meanwhile, The Bogle Effect , by Eric Balchunas, says (with only limited evidence, unfortunately) Passive fund investors are more disciplined than just about anyone else. For example, passive funds took in about $200 billion in 2008 and about $450 billion in 2018—the last two down years in the market. People who say [that passive investors are "weak hands"] underrate the fact that passive fund investors tend to be self-directed. They chose to buy those funds. Thus, they are more loyal to the fund and more likely to understand the importance of staying invested in order to ma...

Any red headed woodpecker sightings? I've had a few visiting my bird feeder in years past, but nothing yet this year. It has grown to be my favorite bird and I'm a little pessimistic in regards to my chances of seeing "Red" again each summer morning while I have coffee. My backyard is full of woodpeckers but I've never seen this handsome bird and have always wondered why. In checking the maps, their range seems patchy in my area (SE NY state). I also read that, sadly, their population has been in decline due to habitat loss. I hope that you have plenty of sightings this year! I'm in NJ and we have a few pairs around - seem to like marshy areas. Very loud calls. I was at Lord Stirling Park in NJ along the Passaic River last spring...

Re: Raising chicken in backyard for eggs

We just added 3 birds to our flock this weekend. 2 golden buffs and a Rhode Island Red that are about 1 year old. Paid $12 total at the local flea market auction. Hard to beat that price. We now have 7 laying hens which will produce way too much for us. We usually give most of our excess eggs away.

Also picked up a Chocolate Dutch Doe just for fun. We are going to let her free range too in the backyard. Previous owners had a nice garden shed and it definitely housed some sort of animals. We converted the majority of it for the chickens, but there was a separate enclosed space that is perfect for a bunny. I'm curious how much damage this little bunny can do to our back acre lol.

I forgot to add.. My chickens are mealworm trained. If I shake the bag of meal worm treats, the come running. It's been a really easy way to get them out of somewhere I don't want them.

Additionally, clipping wings is super easy. It needs redone after they molt and it's not 100% effective, but it did help. Heavier breed are less flighty. All of this only really matters if you plan to free range the birds.

Our birds lay a variety of colors and we leave them out on the kitchen counter unwashed on a spiral rack and it adds a nice touch to our kitchen decor. Fresh eggs do not need to be refrigerated for up to 30 days. When you wash an egg, you actually remove a protective film from the egg hence why they need to be refrigerated. Anytime we hand...

What I don't completely understand is how sometimes the ftds have minimal impact on the price while others there is a major impact on the price. Maybe there is no correlation between the two phenomena? While it is possible, that, to me, is extremely unlikely. I think options settlement t+2 in concert with FTD delivery c+35 with a sprinkle of meme basket quant algos going unchecked in late 2020 early 2021, with a dash of retail fomo, (with the later 2 having much , much less of an impact now) is the recipe. If you look back to the early January of 2022 after hours spike that the mainstream media said was related to the nft marketplace, those ftds c+35 was 1/11/22 and the spike occurred on 1/5 or 1/6 if I recall correctly. There are about twice as many ftds this cycle. What I don't completely understand is how sometimes the ftds have minimal impact on the price while others there is a major impact on the price. The only logical thing I can think of is that there were many institutions caught with their pants down during the situation and they are using various shenanigans to kick the can or pas...

I was in a similar situation a few years ago when we bought our new house. The new house has hydronic baseboard heat, a heat pump, and a mini split for the basement. Our forced air comes from the ceiling which is awesome in the summer, but not ideal in the winter. The baseboard heat solves the problem. As for humidity, I think I remember someone posting here stating it didn't really matter what heat was used in regards to humidity. In my house, regardless of the heat source, the room temperature directly correlates with the room humidity level. If there is a difference, it's really negligible (1-2%). I use a propane burner stand and a stainless brew kettle. The last 2 years I just did 5-10 gallons of sap which produced around a pint. Last year I let the sap sit too long before I boiled it and the syrup had a butterscotch taste to it and we didn't use it.

It's a unique thing to do with the family, but like brewing beer, don't expect to create a better product than the professionals.

I didn't get a chance to tap the tree this year. Best sap flow occurs when temps are above freezing during the day and below freezing at night.

I'm sure neighbors have some beginner friendly equipment you can use if you show interest. Make sure you don't use the propane burner in the garage.

Interest/attention is paramount in learning theory. Beyond that, if the learners don't trust the so called "teacher" in whatever scenario, you can just about forget it. Qualitative analysis is based on sentiment. Sure, you can objectively track social media mentions and invest on that, but the meme stock phenomenon is relatively new and I do believe you can pay attention and selectively pick pretty successfully right now. It won't last forever and you have to stay focused and remain patient, but there have been some really good opportunities in 2021. I'm definitely far from an expert though.

People win poker games. Zero sum.
Long-term investing, increases in productivity, that grows the pie. Everyone eats.

Good luck GME-ers. Be careful. Even if you win, realize what/how you won.
Many have already won and it was achieved via qualitative analysis.

Re: Theory on how GameStop is holding its price

What report are you referring to here? I searched GameStop's recent SEC filings (for the last year) and didn't find any mention of "crypto", "NFT", "blockchain", "token", or "DTCC." It's surprising to me that a company would plan a huge pivot in their business model but make no mention of it in any of their financial statements. Ryan Cohen seems like a surprising guy. There isn't a filing mentioning any of those words that I know of, yet. I'm pretty confident they are launching an NFT marketplace. I bet you'll see some of those words in future filings, probably in 2022. There is a filing GameStop had within the last 6 months that made mention of a situation in which brokerages couldn't fulf...

Re: Theory on how GameStop is holding its price

I think NFTs will be a different way to monitize the digital gaming world and GameStop is going to be a marketplace. Will it come out on top? I don't know, but they have cash, a top notch team, and a vision so why not, right? Right now, NFT transactions aren't efficient. I think GameStop and a partner have found a way to make the market efficient enough for widespread adoption. I envision NFTs/crypto are going to kind of be their own currency in the video game industry. It will be based on a certain layer 1 crypto and backed by a layer 2 crypto token. I'm guessing GME shareholders will get a stake based on their current holdings. This is all speculation, but I have been following this closely and that is my hypothesis. I think the upside t...

Re: Theory on how GameStop is holding its price

You think GME is going to pay a distribution denominated in something other than USD? I don't think the broker infrastructure supports that and I'm not sure if it's even legal. More likely they keep things on their own balance sheet. Overstock issued a crypto dividend and the court backed them. I don't think the broker infrastructure supports it either and GameStop disclosed something along those lines in their report. Something like, if brokerages and the dtcc fail to meet our needs, we reserve the right to move to a different infrastructure. That's a little too deep for my brain, but I do think it's a possibility. Not sure how investors would react to an announcement like that though, so I don't anticipate a full migration to Blockchain....

It'll be interesting to see what happens in January once the 12-month mark has been hit for LTCG...
These people held through swings much larger than 25% so I don't anticipate much action based on LTCG. Heck, a lot of the holders gains are only going to bump them up a tax bracket at most if they sold early which really isn't that much, so why sell just because of LTCG when there's still alot of action left in this saga?

If anything, I expect more action around tax time when people who bought early and sold, then bought back in and are still holding realize they need to pay taxes on the realized gains come tax time.

Re: Theory on how GameStop is holding its price

I think 99% of the population can't comprehend how anyone is buying enough NFTs to make any sense.... And if gaming NFTs for some reason become super hot, why gamestop will be big winner versus Valve or Epic.... Personally it feels like a fad like blue mountain greeting cards but I have been wrong before.... Re: Theory on how GameStop is holding its price

I think GameStop is trying to become the nft marketplace for gaming. I anticipate some sort of nft dividend will given to shareholders at some point in the next year. It might involve a crypto token. From my understanding, staking equal amounts of the crypto token and another popular L1 crypto will allow hodlers to become liquidity providers and earn fees similar to current market makers. I don't think this is specific to GameStop, but there are strong rumors GameStop is going to be this particular crypto companies first premium partner. An announcement is expected sometime this quarter from the company. It's a far reaching, fascinating situation, short squeeze or not. The narrative being pushed by certain hedge fund and MSM is that the red...
