Re: Best time to buy tires

Better than any promotions, when a tire company changes the look of the tire or discontinues them, they often go on huge sale. I've bought tires like this for 25% of their original retail price. In case you don't know, tires have "fashion" just like jugs of oil (you knew that, right) and a...

Re: Mother is looking to refinance and asking me to co-sign

It would be extremely helpful to be able to talk with the refinance institution and find out why they did not approve the refi. We could speculate, but there's, I'm sure a reason. Perhaps asking for $100k less, she'd be approved. Perhaps they feel that she's a risk to finance a pastrami sandwich. We...

Re: Does it make financial sense to buy a "beater" for a long distance commute?

400 miles a week is not all that high in my book. In my own house, one son, who graduated college last spring bought a new Subaru STi as a commuter car. 19.2 mpg on premium. His commute is 100 miles a day round trip. So 500 miles a week.....which is more than you do. I've also worked supporting sale...

You can look at this in a couple of ways. First, if you can roll out what's in there now, that's a huge win. Also, contrary to Boglehead statements of sky high company matches, 4%, to me is an enormous match (more than double what I can get with Mega Tech). If the match is more than your fees, then ...
