Vanguard Customer Service is Horrible

[Thread merged into here, see below. --admin LadyGeek] I wish I didn’t have to write this, but someone must hold these folks accountable. Long story short, Vanguard customer service is horrible. We have been trying for the last 2 months to get my ex removed from my Vanguard accounts (I was awarded all Vanguard funds in our divorce). We are have had an amicable separation, thankfully, and have been working through the Vanguard issues together. It should have been a simple change of ownership issue but was blown way out of proportion [OT comment removed by admin LadyGeek] .... We asked the same question from 5 different reps and got 5 different answers as to how to change ownership on a joint account to me only. I was finally able to transfe...

Re: Is it really Worth it to brown bag your lunch at work?

I am constantly amazed that people try to make this point. Does the act of traveling to and from a restaurant, being seated, and then waiting for your food (then the bill) not take time? I've discussed ad nauseum how I handle it and I do not suggest that everybody can or should do it like we do BUT the last time I went out to eat, the simple act of waiting for our food and then the bill (not including travel) probably took half as much time as I spend preparing food for an entire week. I look up to you on all health-related discussions. But you just don't understand the attraction of being in a nice restaurant, with a nice group of people, with nice people around you, and a nice waitress smiling to everybody. A restaurant meal is not, or a...

Re: Is it really Worth it to brown bag your lunch at work?

There's a better way to analyze this. Figure out your hourly wage, by dividing your salary by number of hours worked in a year. Any services significantly under this hourly rate you should outsource, unless you enjoy the task or don't value your free time/leisure. By making your own lunch every day you are eating up valuable time you could spend doing something else leisurely. The time it takes to buy extra groceries for lunch materials, and to cook/prepare the lunch just isn't worth the savings, which is why I outsource. Now leftovers from dinner the night before, that's a different story. However, if you don't live in a city or have a cafeteria, and have to drive to buy lunch rather than walk, it probably makes sense to make your own lun...

Yes your bill is a little high. Not high enough to justify solar though, pay back time is way too long in my opinion( without generous government subsidies). Set your AC to 78-79, that'll make a huge difference. Check out this website for more easy and aggressive ways to cut your electric bill. http://michaelbluejay.com/electricity/

As Bill Bernstein has said, if you know enough to choose an appropriate financial adviser you don't need one. From reading the Forum for over 15 years, I have noticed that the most egregious posters' financial problems resulted from their financial advisers putting them into inappropriate funds, charging high fees of various types, and locking them in investments that are too expensive to escape. Victoria Yes and yes. And the suggestion in the article about asking for a recommendation from a friend who is satisfied with their FA? No. I cringe when my friends tell me how happy they are with their financial advisor, adding "And they don't charge me anything!" I'm in Texas and was recently rear-ended as well. The other driver was issued a citation and this was clearly noted on the police report. I did not file with my insurance, I filed with his. If you have the other driver's insurance information and a police report clearly showing them at fault then file away against their insurance. No need to contact your insurance agent unless you just want to keep them informed for whatever reason (I called mine to let them know the car was totaled and no longer need to be covered). Also, the entire process was much easier than I imagined it to be and negotiating with the insurance adjuster was actually kind of fun, the games they try to play are well documented on the internet so I was well prepared for w...
