Also, as in many, many insurance matters, state law is also an important factor. Some states have very detailed and specific policies with regards to giving notice of cancellation. There has been a great deal of litigation in my state about following these rules.

Also, be sure to ask if the pension has a pop-up provision. If you are the survivor, the pension would go back up to what it was if you picked the 100% provision originally. Many pensions have this provision.

A similar thing happens with FiServ, one of the biggest billpay services. Two of the owners of condos in our small association pay by billpay from their respective bank and credit union.
