Regarding your question when is the tax due. First, even if you file for an extension, the tax is due on the original due date, traditionally April15. I'd evaluate what the damage will be if it blows a leak.

High $$$ damage risk. Replace it yesterday.

Low $$$ damage risk. Get a water monitor to alert you of any leak and ride it to the end.

If you plan to do your own install, buy it now so you are prepared.
