Dont go searching for the perfect portfolio just make a good choice and go with it. Stay between 30%/70% and 70%/30% stocks to bonds. It will be alright.

Start by asking her how many years she intends for this money to last. Then if it is like 20 years say that over time that is the percentage of her money give to the adviser . Would she pay that one time to have him manage her money forever?

Well we inherited some Brk-b but that really is almost a mutual fund. So from my smarter than the market days I keep a minute bit of Citi just so to remind myself how stupid I was. Not a bad investment now bought it before the reverse split and it took years to get me even.

Looks like they have let their advisor have too much influence or control. They need to take the time to educate themselves quickly. Strart by reading Bogleheads guide to investing/retirement. There are many decisions they will be making soon. Still time left learn. Vanguard would love to help them.
