We have done it by me writing a check from one jointly owned account and the DW writing a check from another jointly owned account. That is probably overkill. I think that all of your examples should be acceptable to the IRS, but I am not an expert on this.

Every three months I write down a complete summary of our investments for the DW. In between I informally look at how our accounts are doing (IRAs and Roths for both of us to make sure they are intact)--about once a week.

We shut off the water when we go on vacation at a valve where it comes into the house. We don't turn the water heater off.

In any case, everybody should know where the water shutoff is and make sure that it is operational in case you need to turn off the water in an emergency.

I had the head gasket problems with my 2001 Subaru Legacy Wagon repaired by a local mechanic before I realized that they were under recall. Subaru later reimbursed me fully for the repairs and never questioned why it was not done by a Subaru dealer.
