Thanks Nisi. I appreciate this post and the intention. Honestly, I'll speak for the layman, the bond posts make my head spin. I get Junk is high risk, I get short/medium/long bonds kinda. Re: "Nobody's ever regretted paying off the mortgage."
I have read every post in this thread and still can't find myself leaning one way or another. We just refinanced our mortgage to 2.88% (yay). Still, like so many others, on one hand I do not like debt; on the other I know the long term probability play is to invest in a taxable brokerage. My hybrid...

Re: How close to retirement age would you start to coast instead of grinding it out?
I think people have largely missed that you're not looking to coast at your current job (i.e. do less work for the same pay) but potentially move into an easier job that pays less because it's easier. Not work less hard on purpose, but purposely find a job that demands much less of your soul (or no...

Dad moved from UK to SF Bay Area 30 years ago, partly cos he hated the gray weather. Best move ever. My family was in Scottsdale 10 days ago. Good time, but it was in the mid-90s 🔥🥵. Can you do it? Yes, no problem. However, I would question your plan in so far as it regards the youngest. At many schools, dorms close over breaks and often over the summer term. You will need to have a plan for them during those weeks, whether that is flying them to Asia severe times a year or put...
