Re: Index ETF or Index Mutual fund for brokerage acct
No, there are no important differences . Claims that either kind of product--ETFs or mutual funds--are much better than the other, is debating about angels dancing on the head of a pin. If you currently invest in individual stocks, and feel generally comfortable with that process, you should probab...

Re: Index ETF or Index Mutual fund for brokerage acct
I like the mutual fund because you can buy in amounts, not shares. When I invest I send $500 or $1,000 to taxable. Buying the ETF always leaves the remainder un-invested. If you put $500 in and the share price is $220, you can buy 2 shares, leaving $80 in Settlement. The ETF trades like a stock (pr...

Index ETF or Index Mutual fund for brokerage acct
What is better for a brokerage acct? An index mutual fund or index ETF? Tracks the same index, same expense ratio, same turnover. Is there any advantage to one or the other?

My 401K is with Empower. They charge me a .79% fee. Does any of this get kicked back to my company I work for?

I'm with Empower Retirement and they charge .79% for administration fees. They do have good iShare index funds which help keep costs a little lower.

Re: No Match 401K Question
by "taking out" do you mean withdrawing your contributions? if you do that, you'll have tax and penalties if under 59 1/2. the question is, should you stop making contributions to tax deferred and instead use brokerage? is the .79% management fee in addition to the expense ratio of the fu...

No Match 401K Question
MY company just implemented large pay cuts and got rid of the match in our 401K. I was getting 1.5% from the company for putting in 3% to my traditional. I also put 4% into my Roth 401K. The 401 company is Empower Retirement and they charge a .79% fee for management. Would I be better taking my 7% o...

Re: Roth 401K Question
The main data needed to answer this question usefully: - Pension? - What age will you be at retirement (i.e. early retirement?) - Size of existing tax-deferred (traditional) balance? - Current tax bracket? Knowing nothing else I'd say max traditional not Roth 401k, which is the wrong choice for the...

Re: Roth 401K Question
I have 20 years till retiring. I am able to max out my Roth IRA yearly. I put 4% in my Traditional 401k to get their max match. Should I add another 4% into a Roth 401K with my employer of just add that money into index funds in my brokerage account? Any advice would be great. Thanks Welcome to the...

Is SCHA + SCHB the equivalent SWTSX?
I'm wanting to add some exposure to small caps and currently only own SWTSX. I have a good portion of my brokerage account already in SWPPX which is their S&P 500 index.
