Re: House Building vs. Buying in this Market?
I would naively assume whatever someone else overpays for your current home can just be plowed into your overpayment on your new place and it's a potential wash. Or perhaps are you not selling your current home or is your local market less frothy?

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue
More random anecdotes. 2017 CR-V in Minnesota, subjected to short winter drives. Zero issues so far, but I am doing oil changes every 5k miles to make myself feel better. There are millions of these engines on the road racking up a lot of miles. All I've seen pan our from this kerfuffle so far is a ...

Re: TIAA Traditional SRA in 403(b) yielding 3%. What's the catch?
Update -- I had a long, quasi-helpful call with Fidelity today. I also did a tiny $100 test re-balance from a total bond mutual fund into the SRA a couple days ago. --From the Fidelity rep: -This is indeed liquid - the only caveat is I can only transfer investments out to 'non-competing" funds,...

Re: TIAA Traditional SRA in 403(b) yielding 3%. What's the catch?
Interesting thread on the UPenn lawsuit. FWIW, my plan administrator is Fidelity and it offers only a handful of TIAA funds, including SRA. Laziness/inertia led me to overlook SRA until now. You have a TIAA Traditional SRA as an investment option inside a Fidelity 403(b)? Are you sure you're not op...

Re: TIAA Traditional SRA in 403(b) yielding 3%. What's the catch?
Since you said SRA, it is likely that it is the liquid version. Just make sure that it is indeed the fully liquid form of Trad Ann. The SRA is always liquid. There are six types of TIAA Traditional annuity. Here's a table that compares them: https://www.tiaa.org/public/pdf/understanding_your_new_re...

TIAA Traditional SRA in 403(b) yielding 3%. What's the catch?
I have always glossed over my 403(b)'s TIAA Traditional SRA offering since I was too lazy to research it, and the offering seemed opaque to me anyway. I was surprised to see it is still offering 3%, so I read through the sparse prospectus info I could find. From boglehead searches, it appears that t...

Re: Getting Rid of Ice Dams
Lol, how do you get rid of the pantyhose? I must not be visualizing this right. You check the downspout in the spring. They tend to wash out. Or the birds grab them for their nests. Or maybe not pantyhose, maybe it is stockings? Whatever the 1 legged item is. Actually, what I might do tomorrow is t...

costco.com cash card purchases through BOA preferred rewards. I also assume this is "only" 5.25% since cash card purchases don't get 2% executive reward. More details: https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=326063 Thanks, definitely something to look into. Right now we get 4% wi...

Re: What's your Yearly Costco Spend?
It involves a common apples and oranges theme about Costco. Anti-Costco people thinking of it as a supermarket are more likely to claim 'we can beat their prices elsewhere' (as highly doubtful as even that claim is at least where we live and the supermarket items we buy), and by same token even pro...

Re: 403b’s, (non-gov) 457b and taxable – best mix
If you retire in the 12% tax bracket, and the 403(b) and 457(b) expenses are reasonable, they are better than a tax-free accounts; you deduct contributions at 22% federal tax, and withdraw at 12%. They are break-even if you need to withdraw enough to be in a 22% bracket. Meanwhile, the taxable acco...

403b’s, (non-gov) 457b and taxable – best mix
Apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but I didn’t see this variation in a search. I currently max out my 403b, his-and-hers Roth IRAs and a family HSA (cash flow expenses). I generally throw excess into a taxable account. Recently, my wife started working again and I became eligibl...

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue
Thank you for your feedback. Good to hear! Has anyone come across something unique on these models that has led to the problem (ex: part manufactured in a certain location, or a certain batch, etc)? None that I have heard of. It is likely part of the vehicle design. There are theories on CR-V messa...

Just an anecdote but everything on my chromecast w google tv is rock solid, except for HBO Max, which will stutter/buffer for 10-15 seconds maybe once every 6 hours of viewing. These hiccups are very minor but only experienced in HBO Max.

Re: Airbnb IPO offering for hosts - should I do it?
FWIW, I followed roughly the same plan as OP did with Lending Club's IPO. Bought into IPO at $15, sold 2/3 of my shares at roughly $25 shortly after the IPO and left the rest to ride. As of today, the remaining shares are down ~90%.

Am I the only idiot waiting (likely in vain) for Vanguard to throw a small inducement like a gift card to late adopters? At least thats how I'm rationalizing my procrastination.
