Re: How to get the best sleep?

Sleep divorce, and earplugs. I fall asleep right away but sometimes wake too early and start ruminating. To combat this i keep ear buds pluged into my phome at my bedside, and i have an audio book cued up and ready to play at about 85% of normal speed. The book is usually something about 17 century ...

Re: The primary factor for picking a College/University is out of pocket cost

We just went through this with DD. Her top choice has a gorgeous campus but offered nothing in merit aid, cost $55k/yr. #3 Choice offered enough in scholarships and housing $ to make the first year oop costs less than 20k. Since they were both out of state public universities, there was no way i cou...

Re: AWD vs 2WD in up state new york

Here in Minnesota we solved this problem ny having a 2wd Sienna for its overall utility and our 2nd car was a AWD CRV. If the weather got real bad, the van stayed in the driveway till the roads were plowed. But with all season radial tires the Siena actually drove pretty well in a few inches of snow...

One of the last pre covid parties i went to had a guy spinning old vinyl LPs from the 70s. Great fun. I have a modest [400+] CD collection and when i travel i drop into used music shops to see if i can fill a hole in my collection. Its cheap fun and im not alone. I have been using my Grace Mondo daily for 10 years and love it. It works like a kitchen radio should. On/off switch, volume knob. You can even set up pandora "stations" as a preset, so with the press of a button you can connect to whatever you want. Amazon has a nice selection.

I had a Honeywell smart thermostat and had to get rid of it because i couldnt regulate how often my furnace and AC cycled on and off. I replaced it with an eccobee which i love. Far easier to program and easier to customize. I highly recommend it. Wherever you get, make sure it has all the features ...

We have a Heat-n-glow gas fireplace that has a standing pilot. It can through 40, 000 btu of heat, enough to keep the main floor of our Minnesota home safely warm with no electrical power. It brings piece of mind in winter, especially during ice storms when our overhead power grid seems most vulnera...

Re: Busted water pipe, now what? Help a Texan out.

If you are not able to get a plumber right away, you could cut the pipe leading outside and install a pushon sharkbite endcap and this woukd allow you to restore water pressure to the rest of the house. Might not be worth the trouble if the plumber is coming soon. Sharkbite 1-1/2 in. Push-to-Connect...

Re: Getting Residence In Another State to Pay Less Taxes?

You may want to closely review your state tax situation. I live in a high tax state, but for people of low income, there are many tax breaks and programs like property tax rebates (even for renters) that might benefit you more than you realize. Same with state subsidised heathcare. Low tax states us...

If you can afford it, i would try to stay away from the entry level Shimano drivetrain and get something a little more robust. The last bike i bought came with a Shimano 105 derailleur and it's been flawless for years. Also, you probably want disc breaks. The price of your bike will be depend on the...

For those of us in a cold climate, heated mattress pad. Never crawl into a cold bed again.

Runner up. Gas fireplace.

Also remote start for the car, heated seats and steering wheel.

My next splurge will be a villa in Cabo.
