You will NOT be double taxed. Why do you think that? Fidelity added another Rollover IRA account all by themselves? I have never heard of that happening, outside of Wells Fargo a few years ago. Are you sure you didn't have something to do with opening this Rollover IRA that caused the pro-rata rule to become relevant for you? Double taxed because now I need to pay tax again on 6.5k due to pro-rata rule after having paid tax on it when earning those 6.5k through wages. You’re paying tax on money that you previously contributed pretax that was in your rollover IRA. That’s what the pro-rata rule does. It’s hard to tell whether you understand that and just want to repeat the “taxed twice” storyline. It’s not the same $6.5k, despite the closene...

There’s your problem. Either rollover your pre-tax IRA money to a 401k or 403b plan, or give up on the idea of a backdoor Roth. No one said to do a Roth conversion of pre-tax money at a high tax rate.Carguy85 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 10:06 pmGreendaleCC wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 8:58 pmDon’t do it if you can’t avoid this. I guess I’m not convinced tax free withdrawals would be beneficial if I convert pretax dollars (say in my TIRA) given my current tax bracket is high and my retirement tax bracket would be 0% if I could keep my spending around $94k or less.

TT making my DCFSA contributions taxable
I've read through the old threads regarding Dependent Care FSA vs Dependent Care Tax Credit, but I still don't completely understand the situation I'm facing.
I've entered my W-2 in TurboTax, which is taking my $5,000 payroll deduction to my employer's Dependent Care FSA (cafeteria plan) and seemingly adding it back into taxable income by placing it in Form 1040's Row 1e (Taxable dependent care benefits from Form 2441, line 26).
Why am I forced to itemize my dependent care expenses for the tax credit in order to receive a deduction for my DCFSA contributions? TurboTax only made this an issue for me starting last year, and I'm not sure why.
What am I missing here?

I follow strangers whose posts I want to see but who I don’t have a reason to contact.
If I don’t know them and they didn’t explain why they are trying to connect with me, I ignore them, unless there is a common shared experience that makes their reasoning obvious. In that case I’d reach out to see if they’ll respond.

The link someone posted above about the IRS stats had this:Small Law Survivor wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2024 3:58 pm I can't imagine that many people do this. Apparently, around $250,000 of these are filed annually. That small number suggests to me that most people don't bother.
Donors filed 250,949 Form 709 returns in 2021,
amounting to nearly $182.6 billion in gifts.

Re: Which college?
Lastly, in last year’s class, only about 20% went surface warfare (you can do a quick google search to see each year’s service selection numbers). There are plenty of other options that are very attainable. I appreciate your stats. I found the Class of 2023 selection numbers ! Re: Which college?
Thank you, I’ve amended my post greatly. Most of my perspective has been shaped by exposure to USAFA grads.

I think that’s your answer. Why in the world would he spend four years at Annapolis if he’s not even interested in doing Navy ROTC at UT Austin and enjoying his life outside of ROTC as a regular college student? Why trade college freedom for the extremely regimented daily life of a service academy without some basic desire to be a Navy or Marine Corps officer? The whole thing sounds inconceivable to me. Completely inconceivable. OP, I recommend you edit your post title to include “Service Academy” so you hear from people who attended one. There are a han...
