Re: A/C in the garage
Appreciate the discussion. I think long term the mini-split is the way to go. I spoke with my wife last night and she is agreeable to closing off the "3rd" garage area (that already has three insulated walls) as a temporary measure. If it is comfortable, she can stay like that for this sum...

Re: A/C in the garage
In this context, vent means the exhaust of the a/c unit. The garage door is not insulated so it would be a major source of leaked air. I did look into a mini-split but cost is somewhere around $1500-$2000. Part of the spend decision depends on business outlook - so far it's been pretty good but she'...

My wife does her home based business out of the garage (started fall of last year). This will be the first TX summer with her in the garage so we are looking at options to cool it down. I have somewhat irrational fears about losing my job and having to pay back the ~$30,000 in signing bonus and relocation expenses I was given, so I tend to be a bit cash-heavy. At my MegaCorp, they publish join by dates to be eligible for raises/bonuses. It's usually 4 months before raises/bonuses are paid out so technically you could work there for 5 months and still get a raise and decent bonus.

I recently went through this (twice). You can get a used a used desktop and nice screen for under $300. Costco has a large bottle (1.75 liters I think) of Balvenie blended scotch that is very nice as a substitute for the higher priced scotches. Been there, done that. Power wash and then stain. You don't have to spray the stain if there are concerns about over-spraying. Using a paint brush will work just as well. Eventually the stain will fade out too. I'd say once every 5 years.
