Re: Confused on Interest Rates and Bond Returns

Re: Carpenter Ants
I have eliminated a large colony using Terro outdoor ant baits. They must be placed properly and you need patience. The nest I took out - the main nest - was in a rotted tree stump in a neighbors yard. I had at least one "satellite" nest in my house. I did not want to broadcast poisons, so...

Have you backtested at portfolio visualizer? Be careful with drawing conclusions on bonds from back-testing. Bond interest rates of the past 40 years have been much higher than they are today. (And with high-quality bonds, it's all about interest rates.) It is really an apples versus oranges compar...

Given that I follow a risk barbell approach - investments split between very safe and very volatile, I have opted not to use muni's in the safe portion. If I want more risk, I will dial-up equities. Structuring the portfolio this way allows me to control how much of my money is at risk and how much ...

I know John Bogle commented on cryptocurrency before he passed. If I recall correctly, he said “ avoid Bitcoin like the plague. I don't make a firm distinction between bonds and cash. Cash is a limiting case along the bond continuum - essentially a zero-duration bond. You can access cash without triggering taxation, so it is not a bad idea to have a small bucket of cash to support any near-term spending needs. To more direct...
