Re: Baylor, Auburn or ‘Bama?
Cousin went to Baylor, brother went to Bama and I went to Auburn. I was thinking of the questions I would have when comparing the three. I would ask about on or near campus housing options and ideally tour at least one. Public transportation is not a strong point for these schools - I survived at Au...

Re: How is living in Auburn, AL
Compared to what? I really like college towns in the Deep South ! Have detailed experience with Auburn, Athens, that other town in Alabama, Durham, Tallahassee, Baton Rouge, Charlotte, Austin, Knoxville. Great traditions, people, and culture. Auburn is LCOL, maybe VLCOL. University community is welc...

Re: How to do the Boundary Waters?
Went in very late 80’s and had a fantastic time! Was with a scout group and learned a lot from our 18 yo guide about avoiding mosquitoes. Camp on windswept peninsulas with clear western view. The only night that we did not follow his advice was miserable. Do not be afraid to stop before 1500 when yo...

Re: Question for gardeners - What is the best herbicide to get rid of Canada Thistle?
Do not know “the best” but I have been satisfied with carefully aimed, spot application of Roundup. If the thistle is very close to a valued plant, I dig it up including as much root as possible. Either way, I treat twice a week and think that this frequency is important so that I get them while the...

Re: Car servicing long distance trip
Congratulations on raising a kid ready to leave home! I have sent 4 out into the world plus have my own experience. (1) is a car essential? (2) is a grandparent available to guide to local car maintenance? If y and n, target maintenance for when you know the car will return. Replace everything rubbe...

Re: what to do about 1000s of dandelions/weeds?
Dandelions seem to prefer acidic soil. I have substantially reduced mine by mowing high, two inches or higher, spreading limestone multiple falls, and spot spraying 2,4 D. Thus I use substantially less herbicide than by broadcast application.

Re: Long term care insurance policy
DW and I bought LTC insurance at about your age and have had policies over 8 years. Premium increases have been about 4%, total. We intentionally avoided companies with large exposures to unlimited duration policies. The agent knew I was a cost sensitive customer and guided us to successfully apply ...
