Why is this the first year you need to take the RMD? You indicated that the primary beneficiary (spouse) died in 2019, without taking the 2019 RMD. Some beneficiary needs to take the 2019 RMD based on divisor of 3.1, Then the successor beneficiary need to take the 2020 RMD based on division of 2.1,...

Why: multiple marriages, trying to solve two problems, income to spouse, capital to bloodline, and not maintaining estate documents for over 2 decades doesn't help. IMHO, if you haven't, you need an estate plan as well, especially if your assets are growing. You're not quite there, but if married, you may want to look into a disclaimer trust setup to prep for being over the federal estate tax threshold, as many do in the 15M+ category. Also, an estate planning ...

I've always used rewards to off-set the expense they are associated with. I don't like to put it as income because it's not taxable and would mess with my tax planning. The danger is that you're underestimating your "true" spend on a category. If that worries you, just add 5% (or whatever...

It could be many different things. If you're the DIY type, you will need a good scanner, or Techstream, to connect to the systems to get the codes and data feeds for diagnose to see what's going on. Or, take it to the dealer or good independent mechanic.

One option, is a CCRC, if a person can qualify and pass the CCRC's tests to live independently. There's a buy in and these usually have one monthly rate, and the transitions (independent -> assisted living -> nursing) do not raise that rate. Just something you can look into if it's applicable.

OK, this is going to be hard without a picture but my first question in premature corrosion failure would be an improper (or no) dielectric fitting between the transition of two types of metal, like copper and galvanized steel, for instance. Was the nipple swapped with one or is the union one?
