Re: TV size question

Another vote for as big as your budget allows. Especially given your area behind the couch.

Also, if you’re looking at 80 or bigger, a nice projection setup may be looked at as well. I have a 85 and wish I did that instead

Re: My $2 a day car - for frugal living / car depreciation nerds.

Impressive deal on the Kona Ev. Is that a national deal? I leased the Kona. Zero down (including no costs for title/license/registration/tax/etc, and first month payment waived) 35 remaining payments of $212 plus tax. All maintenance will be covered, and I'll also save $1000k on gas each year. I cha...

Airport lounges

I am sitting in Jamaica, waiting for my flight home. Paid 150 for 3 adults and 3 kids to have access to this lounge (club Mobay) pre flight. It’s good, kids are entertained and fed... 150 for 1.5 hrs seems like a lot? Idk. A little about me: I hate everything around flying. With a passion. I love tr...

Re: Urgent passport issue

OP here: Went on a wonderful vacation to Jamaica with the passport issue resolved. Just getting the appointment was hard, VERY HARD, but my state senator office was able to help me. It did cost me in higher fees for the kids and I, one day lost work to drive 3 hours one way to the passport agency, a...

Re: Urgent passport issue

Thx everyone. It seems unlikely that I will get this issue resolved. Might be an expensive lesson. It does seem silly that this is an issue... it’s a blank piece of paper in a blue book. Very frustrating. The Covid test part, we handled. We have plans in place for appropriate testing etc. things hav...

Urgent passport issue

I’m supposed to go out of country on the 20th with family for vacation. My two kids and I (8 and 9) just saw that our passports are expired by two months. My wife and baby’s passports are fine. This trip is extremely important for my family. Given my inflexible work schedule, I won’t be able to resc...

Re: Real reviews of Gas Hot water heaters

I don’t know enough about this subject so please help: 1. I have 2 10 year old 80gallon AO SMITH heaters in opposite sides of the finished basement. One recently required some ignition replaced, which was 500. Should I have just replaced the whole thing? 2. Do people generally have less issues with ...

Cell phone service

Fellow bogleheads, I’ve had Verizon service for a decade. Due to some corporate changes, I’m looking to switch off the company plan. I can choose any personal plan Here are my criteria: 1. Extremely reliable. I like Verizon for this 2. Must have at least 3GB data/month. 3. Minimal hassles 4. Ideally...

Re: Corvette vs Cayman/Boxster......anyone owned both?

I’ve owned both. Currently have the boxster. The boxster is my daily summer driver. I bought it used. I’ve had it for7 years. I used to make fun of Porsche drivers, especially from the value standpoint. Im a total convert. Of note, I do think that the cayenne is overpriced and not fun. So I’m not in...

Re: Please help me with my car decision

Thank you for your suggestion about winter tires on my boxster. I don’t have a long commute at all. Do you really think I could add winter tires to my boxster and do icy roads more times than not? I could always take the minivan in a pinch or if it’s several inches of snow? We do winter tires on the...

Re: Please help me with my car decision

Hi smitcat. Not sure if you really wanted an answer but here it is: We made a lot less and had 250k in loans. We lived like residents for a number of years. We bought a house in a LCOL area and we also got significantly better jobs here. It also helped that I graduated early from high school and col...

Re: Please help me with my car decision

1. I’m so sorry that this came off as a humblebrag. Please know that is not my intention and I’m happy to withdraw my questions if that’s the case. 2. Thank you for the suggestion for the leaf. I’ll look into it. Any issues with winter tires on it? 3. Thank you for the suggestion of the Porsche awd....

Re: Please help me with my car decision

Our nanny only uses our car occasionally. Less than once every three months. She has her own vehicle that can seat five.

Also, we have bought all of our cars used. The most expensive of which is my wife’s car which was still less than 40k...

Please help me with my car decision

Bogleheads, Thank you for all you do. I would appreciate your kind advice: Situation: 1. I drive 3 miles to work most days. Sometimes 7 miles. Very occasionally 60 miles to cover distant hospital. Maybe 5x a year. Not in winter usually. I drive a Porsche for about 7 months a year. 2 seater rwd. 2. M...
