Re: Great news! No more agent commission
Will sellers and buyers (not realtors) have access to the MLS listings or something similar? That could change selling and buying of real estate. I'll provide my perspective as a current real estate broker who does this as a hobby, and even then only for myself, friends, and family, so I normally give all or most of my post-tax commission back to said friends and family either as credits to cover services like attorney fees, inspection fees, and I even bought my last 'client' a new washer, dryer, and hot water heater. I'm specifically responding to Carolinaman's above comment, but generally responding to perspectives shared here and on random articles I've read today. I will start out by noting that I would be pleased if the whole real est...

FIdelity used to have the standard offers (ie $2,500 for $1 million). When they went commission free, that reduced their marketing budget so you don't see the offers as often.

Re: Robinhood 3% IRA Match
But is it unfounded paranoia when a deal strikes you as "too good to be true" and I'm looking at any angle before transferring a third of my life savings there? It is because you keep asking about future changes that can't be disproven. It does seem kind of crazy to transfer if someone has this many reservations. I do have lots of reservations. I can get about $20K on this deal. That's certainly enough for me to look into it. So many smart sayings come to mind. For example, "If it's too good to be true, it's not". So do I ignore those sayings? It is very hard for me to believe there's a free lunch here. They are paying out a ton of money here. My gut tells me that there has to be some risk to me before someone is handin...

Dang dude...that is killing it, especially in 2009! Sure, there are a lot of technology people with that much these days but that was a ton of money at/near the market bottom for a 40 year old. Did you sell a business or something?retired recently wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 2:46 pm I retired in 2009 with $4.6million at 40 years old, not counting our house we purchased. We have really done everything we want to do during this time. Current value is $7.5million, although we downsized two years ago and pulled $400k out of our home.

Re: Robinhood 3% IRA Match
I believe I saw that Robinhood charges a $100 fee to move money out of Robinhood. That's not a crazy amount relative to the 3% match. Can that be changed in the future? Can it possibly be a percentage in the future? I still have a lack of faith here and looking for a potential catch. Do you know of any broker that charges a percentage fee to close out an account? I do not, but I really don't follow these things hence the question. Just seems to me if they are offering a very large unlimited bonus based on a percentage, and they want to cover themselves, having a transfer out fee that is also based on a percentage could prevent a mass exodus in 5 years. And would also be followed by massive lawsuits and kill their chance for any new clients.

Webull is offering an even bigger incentive that Robinhood. 2 ponzi schemes? Where, exactly, are the big profits going to in order to even need a ponzi scheme? Even Madoff had some little known accountant sign off and he ran a money management business to "need" a ponzi scheme.
The point .6% a year bonus isn't exactly crazy compared to etrade's .4% per year in the past.

Even if Robinhood fails...that does not mean you lose your money even if over $500,000. In order to lose money, they would have to fail/steal and not be recoverable. It would also have to be in excess of their excess SIPC coverage (have no idea how good of a insurance they are using though). I don't think customer lost any money in Lehman even.

Re: Robinhood 3% IRA Match
Nope. Only for cash in brokerage, not in IRA. How do I pay for Robinhood gold if all I have is the IRA? They can't deduct from that (I don't think). You can't have only an IRA. You are required to have a brokerage account in order to open an IRA. Yeah, I see that now and put $100 into the regular brokerage account. Opened broker, ira and roth online and was given $1 for taking a survey. That said I'm now having second thoughts about going ahead due to the platform not having proper beneficiary inputs. Do I really want to rely on 'I can go to SIPC insurance or successor for my hard earned retirement dollars should this brokerage fail'? Some here have no reservations, tally ho! The offer is generous but I'm leaning conservative. Any tips on ...

I've had a Merrill Edge account for about 5 years. I just negotiated a bonus for a bigger amount. I knew that the nice lady at the new Bank of America branch was new and wasn't sure what to do, but she went back and forth with someone "higher up" and I got a decent bonus and transferred in some securities to my already existing account. After it was all done, I asked her for something in writing, as I realized that I did not have anything. I politely told her that I was concerned that if she hit the big Powerball and moved to her own island, I would have nothing to prove what we agreed to. The bonus was to be paid out at the end of a 9 month holding period. OK. She hemmed and hawed about getting me something in writing and finall...

Re: Robinhood 3% IRA Match
My understanding (which may not be correct) is that as long as the value doesn't drop below your inital contribution that you were bonused on on the day of the withdrawal, then you are fine.runr wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 9:16 am This may have been asked, but for the 1% taxable or 3% IRA promo offer, what happens if you withdraw dividend payment and then the stock value falls below the net transferred (day you ACATS in) asset value, am I not allowed to withdrawal my dividend payments? Or if I don't do anything and the market just declines?
So, if you put $100,000 in and it went to $110,000 and your divdend (that you withdrew) paid you $1,000, no big deal. If the stock was unchanged and you took out $1,000 dividend, then you get dinged.

This is a very, very solid bonus. It might actually the best ever in certain ways.
The basic offer level is usually $2,500 on $1 million. Etrade had $4,000 on $1 million from time to time.
The only ones I can think of that are better as a percentage is the Tastytrade $2,000 on $100,000, Public's offer and Webull 3x. However, at least with Webull and Tastytrade those were taxable (not sure about Public). The Roth offer from Robinhood is absolutely fantastic.

Long story short you have to keep your cash at Webull for 2 years to get the whole bonus, but it appears you can break free after 1 year and just get 0.8% which is still pretty good.
Does this work on IRAs? Also, is the limit of what they give you $30,000 (ie can transfer up to $2 million) or is are they trying to only go for $30,000 accounts? I'd assume the former but unclear.
