Not crazy.... We bought the place we have on Lake Erie in Canada in 1999 for $30K US.... Needless to say, it needed some work and we made it into something we like.... At the time our kids were 21 and 18... I retired in 2014... This was the 1st year we have not been able to use it because of Covid.....

We moved where we are in 2004... Bad power area, and installed a 15 KW Generac off NG... Almost all the folks around us have some kind of generator... The hour meter says 272 hours in 15 years, so about 18 hours average per year.. Have done my own maintenance which includes 2 batteries and starters ...

We travel to Canada 5-6 months each year or so to the cottage and have stayed with Verizon for the plan... Roam off Rogers or Tellus there... If you stay in the States this is not a consideration.... Just my $0.02....

Every month or so a trim that includes the bushy eye brows from the local hair cutting operation down the road.... They're nice folks.... The posted charge is $12 for the Sr. hair cut but I usually give em $25....

I believe all dealers deals change monthly; I could be wrong but,... In our case, the deal at that time (December, for a 2017 model) was at least 20% down and no finance charges for a 36 month term.
We put 50% down and got the 0% financing for 36 months.... Worked for me....

Hmmm.... Shade on the beach.... I remember our hosts on Tortola saying to steer clear of the palm trees, the coconuts had a habit of falling... She said the cruise ship people always headed for the trees and there were a few casualties....

We have an electric tankless hot water heater at our cottage because of space constraints.... 100 amp service.... Works good but we don't do too many things at once because it'll pop the main breaker... For that reason I'm going to change it to propane this year....

In Michigan, if you take your DD214 when you renew your Driver's License, they will put "Veteran" on the DL....

Just gave my 15 yo Yardman 26 inch electric start 2 stage to our Son and upgraded to a Cub Cadet 3 stage with heated grips.... 120 ft driveway.... Think I used it 10 times last year... The Yardman always performed good but the new one with heated grips got me....

We have a LP fireplace in our cottage in Canada (approximately 500 sq ft) that has a pilot light that burns all the time when we have it activated and the FP does have a fan. It is vented to the outside. The fan is needed in our case. I can't imagine it working very well without the fan. The thermos...

Not to hijack the thread however, my experience in Canada is I have to manually enable GSM on my Droid turbo and the Wife's Pixel when we am there for good service, to roam off Rogers and Telus via my Verizon service; which works just fine where we are in Ontario.... Not sure what iPhone users exper...

Retired... $134 Monthly for Medicare Part B for me & the spouse = $3,208.... $180 monthly for BCBS Medicare Advantage (includes most prescription costs) for the Wife = $2,150.... Not sure what the deductibles are because I don't keep track but, in 2017 we paid about $4K in out of pocket costs......

Not clear where you will be in Ontario however, remember if you are close to the US you have the option of returning to the States for medical care... We have done this a couple times when it was not urgent but we felt better about getting care in the US... Just a thought....

We have had a cottage in Canada 40+ years that we use as our Summer space for about 5 months a year... I think it's safe to say you will find grocery costs higher than in the US so, nothing to save there... Beer, wine, & booze at the Beer Store and LCBO might look high but the exchange rate help...
