Re: Simple but fun cars
I was in high school when the 2003/2004 Mustang Cobras came out. For those who aren't familiar, these particular models (terminators) came with superchargers and engines built like Mack trucks from Ford having to do some PR damage control from the previous years Cobra. Anyways, 6 speed, depreciation...

Re: Any car enthusiasts? (or soon to be)
Another lifelong car enthusiast here. Have had a few base GT mustangs and finally bought (graduated high school in 2005 for time reference) a 2003 Mustang Cobra last month. I was stuck between a few cars but there are a few you can pull the trigger on now and your investment will be MOSTLY safe. The...

Re: What to add to the baby registry?
Agreed on cash or gift cards. We had our first baby last fall and I researched for about 6 months on every little thing to get. Things that are nice are a car seat that clicks out of the car and into a stroller, there is some fancy name for them. But leaving the baby sleeping is super convenient. We...

Re: New car dealer pricing
And great post about the difference between sales guy and the manager. The sales guy is for the most part, unaware of the finances of the dealership. The sales manager/finance manager are absolute sharks and incredible at playing stupid. The truck I just bought took 45 minutes (and I LOVE buying car...

Re: New car dealer pricing
The dealer pricing on the internet is almost ALWAYS (when they finally get you to walk into the dealership doors) only for people who qualify for every single rebate (there is literally one from Chrysler right now ONLY for people that have a 620 credit score or LOWER lol). That being said....they ca...

Re: My New Car Buying Tips
So, this is a tough thread since bogleheads mostly hate new cars :) but here is a pretty simple route for anyone who has mediocre car and internet experience (this has worked for me on my last 4 new cars). Search Cars.com an area of 250 miles (the most im realistically willing to drive to have someo...

Re: Medicare and Cataract surgery - one or two charges?
Two weeks is definitely the norm, they'll do 1 week apart if your prescription is pretty significant. For example, if you're 6 units nearsighted, they'll attempt to bring the first eye back to zero and that imbalance can be pretty uncomfortable for the patient to live with for an additional week. An...

Re: Medicare and Cataract surgery - one or two charges?
Two different surgeries, two different charges. It would be pretty wildly against the standard of care with how minor the surgeries are at this point to risk doing both the same day. There may also be a secondary provider that bills for the post-op care, both left and right eyes. Specifically, you w...

Re: Florida road trip - what towns to stay in?
Naples, Naples, Naples. We only vacation to Florida a few times a year, so I'm certainly not an expert like a lot of people who have replied so far. But if you are looking for a city that is the polar opposite from beer bongs and techno music, Naples is it. It is a very upscale city, 5th ave/downtow...

Re: Another Vehicle Question
he said 3 boys! Surely he is getting pressure to trade in the minivan! :D Clearly you can afford it, the only thing I would add is POSSIBLY a crew cab truck with a topper? The F150 has a huge backseat, but Ram just came out with (2019 Ram 1500) a similar size cabin with reclining rear seats, but it ...

Re: Gold ball cracked my house window. Do I have any recourse?
Pay the window company. Your only other recourse is to hire a golf pro and try to get this guys slice straightened out. I have spent much more on golf lessons than windows.

Re: Should reliability rankings eliminate Jeep Grand Cherokee?
Owner of a 2015 Overland 4x4 with 40k miles on it, bought new. I looked at a lot of suv's in 2015 and the Lincoln MKX was the other car that I seriously considered. Firstly, the jeep was a year off (model started in 2014 with bugs, as previously stated) a refresh, and they added in what I figured ar...

Re: Residency/fellowship investing questions!
Correct, income after hem/onc fellowship is around $210,000 in our low cost of living area. We have no debt besides mortgage and her student loan debt (which is an entire game in itself, those who know the system well will understand, 5 years of post med school training count towards that loan forgi...

Residency/fellowship investing questions!
Good afternoon! This is going to sound like nails on a chalkboard to most of you, but i’ve spent enough time on this forum to see that even the dumbest questions get some quality answers. Here’s my situation. Wife is in her second year of residency (1 year left) before she moves onto a fellowship th...

Re: Winter car safety kit?
Cash!! I use more of a bug-out bag type of kit, and I stock that for my own survival, as well as helping others. Biggest things that have helped me with others are jumper cables (you already have) and a socket wrench set (replace alternator in a pinch). But other than that, cash.
