I use an elliptical regularly and highly recommend the Precor AMT for a high level low impact workout.

Re: Stable Value Fund as “bond” allocation

I have used a stable value fund for my fixed income allocation for several years. The rate is reset yearly. It appears to be very low risk and I have no limitations on withdrawals.

Re: Buying an elliptical machine - please recommend

I have used the Precor ATM for years and love it. I prefer it to most of the other brands I have tried. It may be over your price range however.

Re: Bond fund vs Stable Value in 401k??

I keep all of my 401k fixed income allotment in a Stable Value fund. I consider this to be “no risk” money and better than a bond fund in today’s low interest environment. My fund is paying 3.5% this year. The rate is reset yearly.

Re: Bike upgrade recs?

I would recommend a Trek FX series bicycle. I just bought their FX 6 model and love it. It cost ~$2000 but they have less expensive models. It is lightweight, has disc brakes, and upright style handlebars. I ride everyday and fell quite safe on it.

Re: stable value fund vs bond funds in 401(k)

I think this is a good move and have most of my 401(k) fixed income in a stable value fund. The interest rate is readjusted yearly. It is very low risk.

Re: Standard Insurance Comp Stable Fund ll [how safe?]

I think it is very safe. I used to work for Standard. It was a very conservative and well run company, now owned by a large Japanese insurance company. I have a substantial amount of my retirement funds in one of their stable value funds.

Re: RMD Mandate from Rollover/Transfer of Retirement Account

I had a similar situation and had to do a mandatory RMD at the time of the transfer. I disputed this but was overruled by the retirement fund custodian who said it was required.

I would suggest staying at the Frenchglen Hotel. It is the nearest hotel, reasonably priced, and historic. I think gas is avaiable nearby.

Re: RMD Rules

I had a similar experience. I was moving a 401K from one employer to another. I was 70 and 4 months. I was told that there is a rule that you have to take an RMD at the time of the rollover if you will be 70.5 in that year. If I had known of this rule I would have done the rollover the year before. ...

Starting RMD at age 72

I retired this year from a company that holds my 401K. I have not started taking RMD's because I was still working and owned less than 20% of the company. I will be 72 this October. The retirement plan says I do not have to take my first withdrawal until April 2017. I will have to take two withdrawa...
