Re: Pay off mortgage vs bonds in taxable (after maxing out other retirement)

Just paid my mortgage off with my brokerage account to cash flow my 457 (39k/yr-catchup), 401k (19.5/yr), Roth IRA, DW's 457 (26k/yr), DW's 403b (26k/yr), DW's Roth IRA, DW's HSA, and DW's 401a (15k/yr).

No regrets here :)

I say pay off the mortgage!

If you are willing to do a business card (and it seems you are), and you are finally under 5/24, you should stick with business cards for now to stay under 5/24. The Chase Ink Preferred (which you mentioned) and Chase Ink Cash or Unlimited (75k for $5k) are excellent choices right now. Thanks ZinCO!

If it's $200 per month , then no way: $200 x 12 months/year x 20 years/accident = $48,000. While the vehicle is worth a lot for its age, I don't imagine it's that much. If it's pe...

I looked at the numbers and would not do it. Another option to consider is to fund the 457 instead of the 401k (if you are still contributing). The reason why is that you can access the 457 funds upon retirement and any age but have to wait until 59.5 for the 401k even if you retire early. Hopefull...

Please explain the 39k catch-up more. You seem too young to qualify and the amount seems to high. Are you both going to full max and full catch-up once you both turn 50? At some government agencies you are allowed to retire with a pension at age 50. So starting the year you turn 47 you are eligible...

I have the 3 year catch up (457) paperwork ready to go ($39k/yr). Do you think this is wise: 1. Use my brokerage account to pay off my mortgage (45k, 3%, 3 years left approx).
